fixed braces

As the name implies, fixed dental braces are firmly bonded to the teeth and thus have the great advantage that they do their work 24 hours a day. The best-known fixed appliance is the so-called multi-bracket appliance, where brackets are attached to the teeth and with the aid of an archwire which runs through brackets the teeth are brought into an ideal arch form. We offer various multibracket appliances.
There are a variety of different metal brackets. We offer standard stainless steel brackets as well as mini-brackets, in which the archwire is fixed in the bracket slots with colored alastics or metal wires.
Minibrackets have the great advantage that they are aesthetically very appealing, can even be called jewelry pieces and through the graceful design also the oral hygiene is significantly simplified.
We also offer self-ligating brackets, which means that the bow is not attached directly with alastics but with the aid of a mechanism built into the brackets. By means of this improved, continuously acting force transmission, the treatment duration with these brackets can be reduced.
The ceramic brackets, as the name implies, are not out of metal, but out of aesthetically appealing ceramics and are therefore the most unobtrusive visible braces since ceramics resemble the natural tooth color. We offer matching (white) arches or golden arches.

tmj

Our treatment objectives as orthodontists are not only to attain a healthy and beautiful smile for our patients but also to treat a very common and troublesome dental issue which is known as Temporal Mandibular Joint disorder, or TMJ.

TMJ is a disorder of the jaw joints which creates jaw and bite alignment malfunctions in individuals suffering from this dental disorder. The mandibular bone [lower jaw] is designed to slide and rotate to provide for range of motion when chewing and speaking. The causes of TMJ can range from grinding of the teeth, clenching of the jaw, highly stressful lifestyle, as well as age-related wearing down of the jaw bone and joint. Other factors are hyper mobile ligaments, arthritic conditions and cranial sacral distortions.

retention

Following the cessation of active orthodontic tooth movement, retention is the phase of orthodontic treatment which maintains the teeth in their orthodontically corrected positions. Orthodontic retainers resist the tendency of teeth to return to their pre-treatment positions under the influence of periodontal, occlusal and soft tissue forces, and continuing dentofacial growth. Retention is advisable for almost all treated malocclusions.

These retainers are robust and can be worn during the day and night. A retention regime with Hawley retainers of 6 months full time wear followed by 6 months nights only has been recommended as it has been shown to be associated with less relapse.
Fixed retainers are indicated for long-term retention. Fixed retainers are discreet and reduce the demands on patient compliance.

orthognathic treatment

Sometimes orthodontic treatment alone cannot give you the ideal bite because of severe jaw problems. In these cases an orthodontic treatment combined with orthognathic surgery brings dramatic positive results.

We are responsible for the orthodontic treatment and we work together with maxillofacial surgeons who do the jaw surgery.

We would be delighted to provide you with more information on orthognathic treatment methods in an initial consultation.

snoring splint

In some cases snoring can be stopped by wearing a mandibular advancement splint during sleep. When a patients airway is partially blocked by the soft tissue and muscles surrounding the windpipe, it creates soft palate vibrations that cause the snoring. Also known as an anti-snoring device, the splint is used to prevent the soft tissue from collapsing into the airway.
